Breeding Programme
At Hysteps, our dogs are first and foremost much loved companions. Everything we do begins with the dogs themselves; their temperament, soundness, instinct and ability to fit naturally into everyday life.
We breed only occasionally, with each litter carefully planned and thoughtfully raised in our home. Our aim has never been to produce large numbers, but instead to preserve the qualities we value most in the Border Collie: intelligence, trainability, athleticism, breed type and the wonderful willingness to work and connect with their people.
Our dogs are involved in many aspects of life. Alongside success in the show ring, they enjoy obedience, herding and simply being part of the family. We are incredibly proud that Hysteps dogs are not only achieving at a high level, but are also adored companions in their homes.
Health, temperament and longevity are extremely important to us. All breeding dogs are fully health tested, and we take great care when planning combinations, always considering what each pairing may contribute both physically and mentally.
Puppies are raised within the home with plenty of handling, enrichment and exposure to everyday life. We want our puppies to leave us confident, adaptable and ready to become part of their new families.
We are very selective about the homes our puppies go to. While we love to see our dogs succeed in the show ring and performance homes, what matters most to us is that each puppy is wanted, valued and given a fulfilling life. We look for owners who are committed to training, companionship and building a genuine relationship with their dog.
Border Collies are an intelligent and sensitive breed, and they thrive when included as part of daily life. For that reason, we are always happy to speak honestly with potential owners to ensure the breed, and the individual puppy, is the right fit.
We remain in contact with many of our puppy owners throughout the dogs’ lives and love watching them grow and develop in all kinds of homes and activities.

Our Dogs
Our dogs are at the heart of everything we do. Each has been carefully chosen not only for health, temperament and breed type, but for the qualities they bring both in and out of the ring. Litters
Our future litters are planned carefully and only occasionally, with a strong focus on health, temperament, instinct and breed type. You can find more information about upcoming plans and planned combinations on our Future Litters page.
At Hysteps, we breed only occasionally and with careful thought behind every litter. Our priority is to produce healthy, sound Border Collies with excellent temperaments, natural instinct and true breed type.
All breeding dogs are fully health tested and live as part of our family. Puppies are raised within the home with plenty of socialisation, enrichment and exposure to everyday life to help them develop into confident, adaptable companions. We take time matching each puppy to the right home and are always available to offer ongoing support to our owners throughout their dog’s life.
Our Approach to Breeding
We look for committed, loving homes where our puppies will be included as part of daily life. While many Hysteps dogs enjoy success in showing, obedience, performance and herding, what matters most to us is finding owners who understand the breed and are willing to invest time into training and companionship.
Our puppies are not placed on a first come, first served basis. We carefully consider each home and aim to make the best possible match for both puppy and owner.
The Homes We Look For
If you are interested in a Hysteps puppy, we encourage you to first get in touch and tell us a little about yourself, your experience and the kind of home you can offer.
Suitable homes may then be added to our waiting list for future litters. Puppies are matched individually based on temperament, suitability and what we feel will work best for both the puppy and their new family. We remain available for advice and support long after puppies leave for their new homes.
